DAY 7 - TOKYO TO DALLAS VIA OSAKA

Our last day in Japan was pretty hectic and there's not much to write about.

After checking out of our hotel in Tokyo (Princess Meguro), we proceeded to find our way to Shin-Osaka (major station at Osaka). We then boarded the train that would take us to the Kansai International Airport. As our return flight was only at 5:30 p.m.,we had enough time to shop, eat and have some fun.

We had lunch at this typical Japanese restaurant and gorged on some delicious Konoha Dhomburi (rice with vegetables, sauce and egg), and Bukhake Suba (noodles withsoya sauce and wasabi). We also bought some candy and chocolates as gifts for Viha and others. All over Japan, we saw delicious ice-cream displays in many stores, butnever had the time to stop and enjoy one. In the airport, we finally managed to get that off of our "to-do" list.

After checking in, we got past security where we were questioned about the sword we purchased at Nara, but they let us pass after we told them it was for recreational purposes only, and that we were not into any "Kill Bill" type stuff! Finally, just before boarding and after our duty free purchases, we settled one last time for some Sapporo draught and some chips.

We were on our way back home, after a delightful, enchanting and eye-opening week in one of the most exotic countries in the world. What makes Japan Inc. tick? It's impossible to answer that question after a week in Japan, but the indications are very much there. They are the hardest working people I have come across, and its in their blood to produce only aesthetically pleasing things. They never give up, and take pride in whatever they do. They are polite to everyone, and a lot of that niceness rubs off on you whether you like it or not!

They are an advanced civilization, yet they very much respect and preserve the past - they never forget where they came from. As an Indian, I can very much relateto this aspect of their psyche. I think that a country such as Japan breeds creativity - you can't help but be creative while surrounded by all the beauty :-)

Will we ever go back there? You bet. We will, however wait for our daughter Viha to grow older so she can tolerate sitting on a flight for so long, and will better relate to what's going on!

It's been fun translating our diary to this blog, and we hope you enjoyed perusing it. If you have any questions or comments, please write to galelux_japan@yahoo.com (galelux_underscore_japan)
